LiveWorkPlay Applied Research Scholarship Now Available (uOttawa)
Thanks to the generosity of Barry and Marjorie Wellar, a new applied research scholarship is available at the University of Ottawa.
As a University of Ottawa Professor Emeritus, Dr. Wellar and his wife had initially established the scholarship to support research related to his previous work in the Department of Geography. In 2013 they determined to transition the scholarship to LiveWorkPlay to “advance understanding of how to promote and achieve the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the community.”
As co-sponsor of the My Own Place bursary with David Keay (Keller Williams) the new scholarship is an extension of formal efforts by the Wellars to advance inclusive community practices.
“To see these young people moving out and getting jobs is incredibly important,” says Dr. Wellar. “The academic community needs to pay more attention to these developments and report on the benefits to individuals, families, and society.”

LiveWorkPlay Applied Research Scholarship (02041)
INTRODUCTION
LiveWorkPlay is an Ottawa-based charitable organization with a mission of ‘Helping the community welcome people with intellectual disabilities to live, work, and play as valued citizens’. The LiveWorkPlay Applied Research Scholarship is dedicated to supporting graduate students engaged in applied research that is designed to advance understanding of how to promote and achieve the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the community. This can be related to living situations, employment, social activity, citizenship, or a combination of relevant topics.
PURPOSE OF FUND
To encourage graduate students to pursue applied research that will help to advance understanding of how to promote and achieve the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the community.
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
1. be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
2. be registered as a full-time graduate student at the University of Ottawa;
3. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP rules
4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa; and
5. be involved in applied research designed to advance understanding of how to promote and achieve the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the community

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applications must be made through Online Scholarships and Bursaries, which can be accessed through www.uozone.uOttawa.ca, and should include:
1. the Financial Questionnaire; and
2. a letter from the applicant’s supervisor confirming the type of research conducted by the applicant.
