LiveWorkPlay Celebrates National Volunteer Week 2018!

.

At LiveWorkPlay we celebrate our volunteers at the annual Make A Buzz Ottawa event, but we also get in on the fun of National Volunteer Week. We benefit from the support of more than 150 volunteers (contact Alex Darling to join the team!) and how they contribute continues to develop. Here are some examples:

    • board members who meet for upwards of 50 hours per year and engage in additional work in committees and in preparation for meetings to ensure that LiveWorkPlay is not only meeting its fiduciary responsibilities, but is also delivering mission-focused outcomes

        • individuals from the community who respond to opportunities for one to one matching with one of our members (people with an intellectual disability that we support) to develop a reciprocal relationship based around shared interests (hobbies, recreation, arts, and more) and sometimes a lasting friendship

      • volunteers who support our Friday night meetups (gatherings throughout the community for dinner, movies, festivals, and more) which brings people with and without disability labels together to enjoy all that Ottawa has to offer

      • inclusion advocates who bring their experience and connections to bear in support of housing, employment, and social opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and to help neighbourhoods, workplaces, and community venues to be welcoming and inclusive

At LiveWorkPlay we also help our members to make their own volunteer contributions in the community, alongside other citizens, giving back through service to great organizations like Meals on Wheels, Parkdale Food Centre, Dress for Success, and more!
