LiveWorkPlay Joins United Way Ottawa Wall of Inspiration Celebration!

On September 14, United Way Ottawa presented the This is Ottawa Project: 2018—the reveal of the new Wall of Inspiration, honouring the amazing people, organizations, agencies and community partners across this city who share a commitment to driving lasting change.

Last September, more than 500 people joined United Way Ottawa in bringing the first 150 pieces of the new Wall of Inspiration together. This year they revealed the updated and beautifully crafted face of this inspiring beacon of community building that has lived in the heart of our city for nearly two decades.

It was a busy week for LiveWorkPlay with much of the team attending the Community Living Ontario conference in Toronto, but Tammy Whelan, Manager of Employer Partnerships, was on hand for the ceremony. Tammy is a relatively new member of the staff team, and she was able to take in the rich history of the Wall of Inspiration and its connection to LiveWorkPlay with the direct experience of the unveiling.

“The Wall of Inspiration recognizes many citizens and organizations that might not be well known outside of Ottawa, because the causes they support are focused on the local community” said Tammy.

The connections to LiveWorkPlay include former chairpersons Wendy Mitchell (recognized back in 2003) and Cecelia Taylor, co-leader Keenan Wellar, and fundraising volunteer Felice Miranda. In a memorable ceremony in 2013, the LiveWorkPlay organization was recognized as a Community Builder of the Year.

Joining Tammy at the 2018 reveal event was Ken Sparks, himself a 2017 recipient of a Community Builder Award, recognizing in part his important role as a founding member of the LiveWorkPlay Private Sector Employment Task Force, which Tammy is now supporting. Congratulations to United Way Ottawa for starting and continuing this celebrated tradition of recognition for local community champions!
