Join us on February 9 for an RDSP Ontario Registered Disability Savings Plan workshop with optional lunch and learn! The morning session sponsored by HRSDC is entitled “Securing the financial future for people with disabilities.”
This is a free morning workshop (registration required) with an optional lunch and learn afternoon (registration required) with a range of local experts. Our morning presenter is Brendon Pooran, Principal Lawyer at Pooranlaw. The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) helps persons with disabilities and their families plan for their financial well-being. Already thousands of families and individuals across the country are setting up the plan, and an estimated 500,000 Canadians will benefit from this plan over time. With numerous positive aspects, contributions to the plan grow on a tax-deferred basis. Additionally the Federal Government has established matching grants and contributions to assist people grow their RDSPs. Individuals are now able to access these matching grants and contributions retroactively to 2008.
The Ontario Government has exempted the RDSP and RDSP income in determining eligibility for disability income support. This means the beneficiary will be able to save and use income from their RDSP whenever they want, for whatever they want, without any impact on their ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) income or eligibility.
After the conclusion of the RDSP presentation at approximately 11:45am, there will be an optional lunch buffet and an opportunity to learn from local experts from various fields related to disability and planning for the future in the afternoon. An advance non-refundable payment of $25 ($20 early bird) is required for this option.
