New LiveWorkPlay Golf Tournament Partnership
For 2013 LiveWorkPlay is pleased to be partnering with Rotary Club of West Ottawa (RCWO) and Cystic Fibrosis Canada Ottawa Chapter (CFCOC) for a shared golf tournament! The tournament will take place on Thursday, September 19, at the Glen Mar Golf & Country Club on Fernbank Road in Ottawa’s west end.
Starting way back in 1999, LiveWorkPlay organized its first golf tournament as a fundraiser. Well, for 4 years, we all had fun, but we didn’t raise much money. Then 3 years later volunteer Jack Murphy stepped up to take the lead on a new golf tournament, which started in 2007. Jack has retired from his formal role as LiveWorkPlay golf tournament leader, but as we go forward with our new merged tournament, we know most of the golfers and sponsors will be people and places that Jack introduced to LiveWorkPlay.
There are multiple motivations for the new partner tournament format. First, we are already partners with RCWO (who were already partners with CFCOC on the tournament) in other issues such as the employment of people with disabilities and the Rotary at Work initiative. Second, all parties concerned are feeling the pressures of golfer recruitment, and by joining forces, we can share in the positive benefits of (so it appears, see next paragraph) a sold-out tournament. And finally, the tournament has never been just about money – the new partner tournament will further diversity the mix of participants and exposure for LiveWorkPlay and our pursuit of a more welcoming community for people with intellectual disabilities.
Although the complexities of golf tournament registration can be problematic at the best of times, the partnership is working well. LiveWorkPlay is contributing the online registration process (separate registration for LiveWorkPlay) and RCWO and CFCOC participants are responding well to the new arrangement. There are separate registrations to ensure that a reasonable number of past past participants from partner organizations have room to sign up.
The LiveWorkPlay portion is almost sold out, with room for just 4 more foursomes! If you are really quick, you can snap up earlybird pricing, when ends July 31. For those hundreds of supports who enjoyed our past tournaments, you can expect a remarkably similar environment, and you’ll see familiar LiveWorkPlay volunteers out on the course alongside those from RCWO and CFCOC.
