Emily Phan: One Year Work Anniversary!
Quality in human services has a direct correlation to quality humans delivering those services, and experienced, committed staff who stay in their jobs over the long term are critical to a strong workplace culture. They serve as mentors to new staff, and establish a consistent trusted presence with individuals supported by LiveWorkPlay and their families.
We are now sharing a bit more about our staff team on their annual workplace anniversaries. Join us in celebrating a September 22 first year work anniversary for Emily Phan! To help get to know her a little better, here are some questions and answers about Emily.
What is your favorite memory of in the last year at LiveWorkPlay/or share a meaningful story?
One of my favourite memories at LiveWorkPlay in the last year would be when a person I help support was in great spirits because she was excited about celebrating her birthday with family over the weekend, and her co-workers had given her a birthday cake that day. That night we had fun conversations about our families and work/school, we listened to music together, and to top it all off, I was offered some birthday cake!
What was most important was that this particular evening was a step forward in our relationship, and I’ve been able to be a better supporter ever since.
What brought you to work at LiveWorkPlay and why?
I first started with LiveWorkPlay as a volunteer for a one on one match. The description I read regarding the opportunity really caught my eye because 1) I really like manga/anime and 2) I like meeting new people and building relationships. I had been a volunteer for almost 2 years when Alex had sent me an email about part-time work opportunities with LiveWorkPlay. Beyond my volunteering I was happy and impressed with what I’ve seen and heard about LiveWorkPlay, and I was also looking for a job around that time so I decided to apply. It seemed like the LiveWorkPlay staff team was a really open and welcoming group of people…and I was right!
What are you looking forward to in the future with your work?
In the future I am looking forward to meeting new members, building more relationships, and encountering new situations that will help me grow as a person.
What do others have to see about Emily?
