National AccessAbility Week 2025
From May 25 to 31, 2025, for National AccessAbility Week, we celebrated the important contributions of persons with disabilities in Canada, and the efforts of individuals, organizations and workplaces who are actively working to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility and inclusion.
Significant progress has been made to implement the Accessible Canada Act since it came into force in 2019. With more work ahead to build a barrier-free country, let’s continue to take action together to pave the way for a more inclusive future.
The reality is, throughout most of our history, the thinking and actions around accessibility in Canada have focused on physical barriers. This is very important, but also excludes millions of Canadians, including those with intellectual disabilities and autistic persons.
We all benefit from a more accessible and inclusive Canada. Guided by the principle of “Nothing Without Us,” the Government of Canada continues to collaborate with partners from the disability community, as well as Indigenous representatives, intersectional groups, and all levels of government, to ensure that persons with disabilities can participate fully in shaping policies and initiatives.
Included in our Facebook banner to launch the week was a photo of Philip Delangy, who received the LiveWorkPlay Community Ambassador Award on April 10. The award was presented by Joshua Gray, one of our experienced Inclusive Employment specialists. With support from LiveWorkPlay, Philip became a member of the federal public service, and is now an indeterminate employee with Health Canada. Philip is an incredible ambassador and champion for inclusive hiring practices.
